Scenes 7 - 9 probably mark the most pivotal point in the film; as the character uncovers the necklace, which is the key symbol in this short film. The rest of the film including these scenes were all shot at the cemetery, which gave this unsettling, eerie, mysterious feel. These three shots below each represent one of the panels on the storyboard. However with the initial ideas toon the storyboard to the film editing my footage hadn't turned out exactly how I'd imagined.
The images above I drew above for my storyboard were almost drawn in a comic strip/manga style, with little notes around the text to emphasise the little details that were important when filming, as the vision was clear in my head when illustrating this.
Scene 7
For Scene 7, I had imagined Jane to be hyperventilating and hesitating, with a side profile view; however the shot turned out very different (as you can see below). The reason for this as I have explained is that Natasha, the original actress for the character was not available for filming so instead I shot with Reece as the actor. Because of this, I couldn't do a close up of her face, otherwise it wouldn't be the same, so instead I changed up the shot completely to make it work. I instead shot a scene where Reece walks up to a grave, and hesitates, but the camera is focused on her back, which hides who it really is. As opposed to the original vision I had in my head.
I concealed Reece's identity with the aim of hopefully giving the impression it's still Natasha in the video, and this meant I could not show her face, as it would be a giveaway. I did briefly have an idea of deliberately using two different actors so it would look like Natasha essentially gets out of bed, wears her coat, and when she takes it off she is completely different - sort of like a shapeshifter, like the shapeshifters in 'Supernatural'. However I did not go along with this idea, for no particular reason; it's just that I didn't want to do it that way. Maybe if I had more time I could have experimented with that idea by using matching costumes etc, and a whole doppelgänger theme going on, but that wasn't a priority for me in terms of the message I wanted the film to convey, and the way I wanted to convey it.
Scene 8
In scene 8, there was originally supposed to be a birds-eye view of Jane uncovering a box. However realistically this was a bit of a struggle to attempt as the part of the cemetery I picked to film didn't have any tree stumps or anything safe I could use to film from above, so instead I filmed a simpler shot of Reece digging up the box with the necklace from a side view. This again, was different to the vision in my head, but I was happy to adapt my methods to create something that worked. This shot was interesting as Reece doesn't actually dig anything up, the actor simply creates the illusion of doing so by moving their hands around below the camera. I think it actually worked well visually and nobody had to get their hands dirty that way!
Scene 9
In the last scene the box is uncovered and is visible, which is quite similar to the original storyboard idea, except it was shot from the side and not from a birds-eye view to the inconveniences.
