Certificate - 15
The stars - Eden Duncan-Smith (CJ), Dante Crichlaw (Sebastian), Stro (Calvin), Johnathan Nieves (Eduardo)
The plot - Best friends and science nerds CJ & Sebastian work to build their own time machine. When CJ's brother is shot by the police in a case of a mistaken identity, CJ and Set agree to go back in time to save him. The film follows relevant social issues such as police brutality against black people. However the friends realise time travel creates a lot of unforeseen consequences. But in my opinion the movie's main purpose is to inform others of this issue and of police brutality and accept what + who we have. It's rather emotional + helps one realise the harsh reality of the situation.
Highlights - Time machine working (a dramatic moment in the story)
- The scientific talk about the time machine
- Inspirational speech made by the vicar at Sebastian's funeral
Parts that didn't work so well - I feel that the ending could be improved, and is rather repetitive as CJ is stuck in this cycle of trying to help save people in her family killed by the shootings with no luck. In all I think that film was not at all what I expected; not enough sci-fi elements, but rather a good political film.
