Using a new software called Fusion 360 I experimented with basic tools and features to make a 3D model of a basic keyring with my initials on and a circular pattern. The process of making this was relatively straightforward.
The process is shown in the video below. Firstly I drew a solid, disc-like shape, extruded it and created a chamfer (45 degree cut into the bottom) so that it can stand properly on its bottom side. Next using the revolve tool, a smooth edge was created around the top of the disc. The 3 point curve tool was used to cut out the bowl shape inside the keyring.
Using the the circular pattern function I created 20 circles around the outside of the disc by drawing one onto the side. These circles were then used to extrude the pattern on the outside through the keyring.
Then, using a vertical plane tool, 11mm off the bottom, I used text to write my initials over the top, however the plane (which appeared as a yellow surface) enabled the text to be extruded through the surface of the curved bowl so that the text was level. Also using the plane tool, cut the whole for the keyring through the top. Lastly the file was saved as a .stl file so that it was suitable for 3D printing.
