Andy Warhol (born Andrew Warhola); August 6, 1928 – February 22, 1987) was an American craftsman, film director, and maker who was a driving figure within the visual craftsmanship development known as 'pop art' - art traditionally featuring bright colours and made up of commercial items and cultural icons. His works investigate the relationship between aesthetic expression, painting, silkscreening, photography, film, and sculpture, and celebrity culture that thrived by the 1960s, and span an assortment of media, counting portray, silkscreening, photography, film, and design. A few of his best known works incorporate the silkscreen works of art Campbell's Soup Cans (1962) and Marilyn Diptych (1962), the exploratory movies including Domain (1964) and Chelsea Girls (1966), and the mixed media events known as the Exploding Plastic Inevitable (1966–67).

Born and raised in Pittsburgh, Warhol at first sought after a career as a commercial artist. After showing his work in a few displays within the late 1950s, he started to get acknowledgment as a powerful and respected craftsman. His New York studio, 'The Factory' became a well-known gathering put that brought together recognized knowledge, drag queens, writers, Bohemian , Hollywood celebrities, and affluent patrons. He advanced a collection of identities known as Warhol geniuses, and is credited with the well known expression "15 minutes of fame". Within the late 1960s he formed the exploratory rock band The Velvet Underground and established Interview magazine. He wrote various books, counting 'The Philosophy of Andy Warhol and Popism: The Warhol Sixties'. He lived transparently as a gay man some time before the gay freedom movement. After gallbladder surgery, Warhol passed away due to cardiac arrhythmia in February 1987 at the age of 58.
Warhol has been the subject of various review presentations, books, and feature and documentary films. The Andy Warhol Museum in his local city of Pittsburgh, which holds an broad lasting collection of works and archives, is the biggest historical center within the USA dedicated to a single artist today. Any of his works are exceptionally collectible and profoundly valuable. The most largest price ever paid for a Warhol work is US$105 million for a 1963 canvas titled Silver Car Crash (Double Disaster); his works incorporated few of the most expensive artworks ever sold.
From this research I can relate this to my project by using a similar artistic style to convey a sense of identity for each of the people that will be featured in it. I will also incorporate the use of illustration techniques in my work including the simplicity of the images he created, as well as the use of tone and shading. His work of famous faces captures the sort of character and personality that I want to incorporate into my work. I have also included the Campbells Tomato Soup Can (as an example of his work) as it is one of his most famous and recognisable works of art.
